One of the smash hit films of 2010, Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire (dir. Lee Daniels, USA, 2009), will be shown for the first time in Romania in Transilvania IFF's Ursus Open Air, on Tuesday, June 1st, starting 9:45 PM. Winner of the top prize of the Sundance International Film Festival in 2009, two Academy Awards – for the Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published and for the Best Actress in a Supporting Role, also awarded with a BAFTA and a Golden Globe, the film tells the story of Claireece „Precious” Jones, a 16 year-old with a very hard time.
Set in 1987, it is the story of Claireece “Precious” Jones, a sixteen-year-old girl born into a life no one would want. She’s pregnant for the second time by her absent father; at home, she must wait hand and foot on her mother (Mo’Nique), a poisonously angry woman who abuses her emotionally and physically. School is a place of chaos, and Precious has reached the ninth grade with good marks and an awful secret: she can neither read nor write.
