A longtime partner of Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF), the Romanian Cultural Institute in New York continues and extends itscollaboration with the Cluj-based festival for its eleventh edition.
Continuing its support for the US-Romanian professional dialogue in the field, RCINY will also support, for the third year in a row, the presence of a delegation of North American film professionals at TIFF, to include Mike Maggiore (programmer and publicist, Film Forum), Brian Ackerman (programming director, Jacob Burns Film Center), Richard Abramowitz (producer and distributor, Abramorama), Julia Solomonoff (director and producer, teaching Film Directing at Columbia University’s Film Department), Jonathan Howell (VP for theatrical distribution & acquisitions, New Yorker Films), and Guilhem Caillard (communications director, film critic and editor of magazine “Panorama-cinéma,” Montreal; also on the jury of the festival’s Romanian Days). This year RCINY also extends its support for a series of North American filmmakers and producers selected in the festival: Julia Loktev (director of The Loneliest Planet, selected in the official competition), Julia Meltzer (director, The lights in her eyes, selected in the FIPRESCI competition), Guy Edoin (director Wetlands, selected in the official competition), and Felize Frappier (producer, Wetlands).
The North American delegation will attend screenings of the most recent Romanian productions, and take part on June 7 in a discussion moderated by RCINY Director Corina Şuteu and Mihai Chirilov, Artistic Director of TIFF and curator of the Romanian Film Festival in NYC, on the challenges and opportunities of Romanian film distribution in the United States.
Entitled “The Romanian Film Festival in NYC: Histories to Tell,” the discussion will focus in particular on the Romanian Film Festival in NYC co-organized by RCINY and the Film Society of Lincoln Center, in collaboration with TIFF, whose 7th edition will take place November 29 –December 5, 2012.
Another continuing partnership of the Romanian Cultural Institute and TIFF is the production of the special English language magazine aperiTIFF dedicated to the most recent productions, filmmakers and trends in Romanian cinema, under the editorial guidance of Mihai Chirilov, now reaching its third issue. The 2012 issue will be launched during TIFF on June 7th.
